Is AdBlue cheaper than diesel? Can you save money with AdBlue? What is the price of AdBlue in South Africa? How much does AdBlue really cost? We take an in-depth look at ‘cheat devices’ to see if they really work and if they are really worth it?
We recently did a study, comparing the diesel consumption and fuel efficiency on 52 trucks without AdBlue vs. the diesel consumption and fuel efficiency for vehicles that use AdBlue in their trucks.
Over the period of one year the distance travelled per truck was 168 000 km, with 80 000L of diesel being consumed per truck per year. That is 4 160 000L of diesel in total for all 52 trucks. The fuel price was R12,50 / litre – this amounts to a sum of R52 000 000 Diesel cost per year.
We then analysed the amount of diesel consumed by the same 52 trucks, this time the trucks had AdBlue in them. 168 000 km / truck / year. Although this time, each truck used 76 363,64L of diesel. This amounts to 3 970 909,09L in total for all 52 trucks over the period of one year. Thus adding up to R49 636 363,63 / year.
What this means is that not only did the trucks get more kilometres / year for each individual truck, but also saving a lot of money for the entire fleet.
Traveling further, for less and also with significantly less amounts of pollution and almost 0% NOx emissions, thus saving the planet. The total amount of savings you will have gained in your pocket amounts to over R2 million.
Even if you include the price of AdBlue, you will still be saving over half a million Rand on truck cost over the period of one year! So, the simple answer to the question: Is AdBlue cheaper than diesel – yes, you can save money with AdBlue.
To be more precise you can expect to save between 4 – 5% on diesel usage once you start using AdBlue in your truck or heavy commercial vehicle.
